Heathcliff Tailcoat

These sophisticated, streamlined tailcoats are a quintessential addition to your Victorian or Steampunk wardrobe.  Also works as show-stopping modern formalwear.

Tailcoats also make a surprisingly versatile addition to a contemporary wardrobe.  Wear them as a daring substitute for suits or tuxedos for formal occasions.  Think weddings, graduations, holiday parties, masquerade balls, the opera….

Tailcoats have contrasting cuffs and lapels, split tails, in the back, and shank buttons.  Each tailcoat is individually cut and assembled by hand, and every one is a little different.

If you want to be authentically Victorian, tailcoats should fit as snugly as you can stand.  Even if you like a looser fit, keep in mind that all our tailcoats have some “sneaky stretch” built into the fabrics so you still have freedom of movement even when they’re quite fitted.  The sleeve is supposed to be just a little short to show some shirt wrist ruffle.

NOTE: Some seams, darts, back yokes, or other fitting-related details which are shown in the photos will change between sizes or body shapes, and may look different or be completely absent in your version (depending on your particular size or shape).  Design details that don’t affect fit, such as collars or pockets, will stay the same between sizes.

For the main fabric, you can choose from the following gallery: Suitings (any type).

You can also choose Jacquards, Brocades, Silk Brocades, or Faux Suedes, but we’ll need to colour-block with some stretch suitings so you retain full mobility.  Please be aware that choosing any brocade for the main body of the tailcoat (as opposed to just as accents) can get quite costly, as the yardage adds up quickly.

For the lapel and cuff fabric, you can choose from the following galleries:

  • Jacquards (any)
  • Lace Overlays
  • Brocades
  • Silk Brocades
  • Faux Suedes
  • Taffetas
