Heathcliff Tailcoat

$265.00

These sophisticated, streamlined tailcoats are a quintessential addition to your Victorian or Steampunk wardrobe.  They also work as show-stopping modern formalwear for parties, festivals, a wedding, grad, or a trip to the opera.

Try a tailcoat as a daring substitute for suit or tuxedo jackets for formal occasions.

Tailcoats have contrasting cuffs and lapels, split tails in the back, and shank buttons.  Each tailcoat is individually cut and assembled by hand, and every one is a little different!  Wear the front closed or open top show a dashing vest underneath.

All our tailcoats have some “sneaky stretch” built into the fabrics, so you still have freedom of movement even when they’re quite fitted.  You’ll never feel any binding as you reach forward!

The sleeve is supposed to be just a little short to show some shirt wrist ruffle, but if you prefer yours longer, remember to make a note of it during your order.

If you don’t see the fabrics you’re looking for here, please check out the vast selection in our Fabric Galleries.  Prices may vary a lot depending on your choices, contact us directly for a quote after you make your selections (as directed below).

For the main fabric, you can choose from the following gallery: Suitings (any type).

You can also choose Jacquards, Brocades, Silk Brocades, or Faux Suedes, but we’ll need to colour-block with some stretch suitings so you retain full mobility.  Please be aware that choosing any brocade for the main body of the tailcoat (as opposed to just as accents) can get quite costly, as the yardage adds up quickly.

For the lapel and cuff fabric, you can choose from the following galleries:

  • Jacquards (any)
  • Lace Overlays
  • Brocades
  • Silk Brocades
  • Faux Suedes
  • Taffetas

Sizing

Tailcoats look best when they’re fairly fitted; you can wear the front buttoned, or open to show a vest underneath. We make them with 2-4 inches of wearing ease above body measurements, but if you’d like yours to be tighter or looser, please make a note of it during your order.
