Peasant Top

These flattering, versatile top is like having six tops in one!  Use the adjustable drawstring neckline lets you go low, high, square, V-necked, or off the shoulder.

Yes, all the photos with the different necklines are of the same top.  Tops with adjustable necklines are especially good for wearing with corsets, because when you put on a corset, the position of your bustline changes, so it’s important to be able to customize your neckline after the fact to show just enough cleavage.  Control your exposure level with the pull of a ribbon.

Peasant Tops also look adorable with jeans or shorts.

Peasant Tops have short puff sleeves (about one-third of the way down from shoulder to elbow) gathered with a soft elastic forming a small ruffle.

NOTE: Some seams, darts, back yokes, or other fitting-related details which are shown in the photos will change between sizes or body shapes, and may look different or be completely absent in your version (depending on your particular size or shape).  Design details that don’t affect fit, such as collars or pockets, will stay the same between sizes.

For Peasant Tops, you can choose from the following galleries:

  • Silkies

  • Linens and Linen Blends
  • Cottons

If you want a crisp top with a lot of body, you could also go with some Taffetas (but NOT one of the embroidered kinds — too bulky for this design).

Peasant tops can be worn anywhere from semi-fitted to very loose and flowing.  Measure the largest part of your torso (whether it’s your bust, waist, or hip) and use this number to select your size.

Remember, the numbers given below are ACTUAL GARMENT MEASUREMENTS, not your body measurements.  Add a minimum of three inches to your own measurements for semi-fitted (for example, if you measure 40 inches, get a top that measures at LEAST 43 inches, so you’d be a Small).

Allow five or six inches for a moderately loose fit, and 12 inches and up for a loose fit.  These tops are NOT meant to fit tightly.  It’s fine to  get a top that’s 20 inches bigger than you are, especially if you’re going for a billowy period effect.  Remember, you can pull in the neckline as much as you want, so it won’t fall off your shoulders.
